How to grow greed, pride, and selfishness

When times are good, what dies and what lives? Does selfishness die in good times? Does greed die? Does pride die? What about doubt, does it die? No. Good times cause those things within you to grow as moisture causes mold to grow. The more your flesh is given easy living, entertainment, and indulgences the more it grows and demands them.

James 1:2 Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials 3 Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing.
