Without Holy Spirit it is not possible for you to have even one pure thought that is without the stain of sin. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Giving permission to unwanted roommates

Whatever you worship will enter your intellect, mind, emotions, and body. Your desire for anything other than Me gives darkness permission to cohabit with your being. Idolatry or worshiping something other than Me, your Creator, makes you vulnerable to unwanted roommates. Matthew 6:21-24 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.  If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!  No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
