Beware of the Spirit of Religion

And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Matthew 23:2-4, 13-15 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses. 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. 13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

Blindness vs Blindfolded

Do not confuse blindness with being blindfolded. Blindness is a defect. A sense that I gave you is not being used when you are blind. I placed a blindfold on you as a gift to you. The blindfold protects you from independence. It protects you from pride which causes you to fall. It is also like a weight that causes the muscle of faith to grow stronger. To be blinded to Truth is to accept a defect. To be blindfolded is to accept a gift. Turn from blindness and humbly accept the gift of the blindfold. Isaiah 35:5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 1 Corinthians 1:21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 1 John 2:9 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. 2 Corinthians 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Matthew 15:14 Let them alone; they are blind guides.
